February is Heart month where we will be looking to raise funds in aid of Heart Heroes.

Heart Heroes (HH) is committed to supporting children and families in the UK and Wales affected by life-limiting or life-threatening heart conditions. Heart Heroes focus on critically vulnerable children and their families providing a range of specialised activities and events that foster peer support, inclusivity, and emotional well being.

Heart Heroes provide specialised equipment, facilitate transport to essential appointments, and organise well-being activities during lengthy hospital stays or isolation.

In June 2024 my daughter Isla was diagnosed with an enlarged aorta and she was put on medication in order to slow down the growth and pressure of the aorta, as well as having to adapt to reduced physical activities. As a family we felt isolated in trying to navigate how to slow down our active child without her losing out on her childhood. We were directed to Heart Heroes through the cardiac nurses based at the Children's Hospital Bristol. From the very first visit we were completely blown away with the fabulous support they provide the children and also their families. Isla attends monthly I CAN sessions where she has meet new friends and has had the opportunity to try new activities. As her parents it has been so nice to meet other parents and listen to their heart stories and how far they have come on their own journeys while we start ours.
