Story
Special People
How is it that at the most desperate times in our lives we are surrounded my the most incredible people who believe it or not are total strangers to our life. Brought purely to guide us through an unknown journey that nobody wants to take.
Sometimes described as angels they give support beyond words. With a natural ability to say and do the right thing they make those strange and difficult times feel calm. An ability to deal with the extraordinary sadness in our lives and make it feel like a normal day.
It is odd to think that we go through life building relationships, forging friendships which we hold so dear and yet when we hit the hardest wall we have to climb, it is the beautiful hearts of people we don’t even know that come to our rescue and make us feel loved and cherished. Helping us with the most traumatic stage that life can bring.
I think of the nurses that supported my sister and now my dad during their final weeks, days and hours. Nobody can get used to the finality of a human life. Each time devastating. A sadness engulfing the very air they breathe. And yet these people manage to guide and care with kindness, dignity and skill to make each experience individual and special.
Too little credit is given to these wonderful people. To the utterly amazing work they do to keep our loved ones safe and secure when they need it most. To think they manage this in such a unique way. It is a skill that cannot be taught. It is a skill that comes from the very soul. It overflows into a fountain of love cascading down to surround like a blanket around their aura to protect them from the pain.
I would like to say thank you to these truly amazing individuals who take up this work with passion and spirituality. It is not just a comfort for the individual they support. It is a relief to their family to know these angels are looking after the most precious people in their lives. There are no words to describe the feeling of respect with which they are held.
What an incredible talent they have.
Thank you everyone at Marie Curie Hospice, Newcastle Upon Tyne
