Story
I am doing the Ride London 60 mile cycling event on the 28th May 2023 with my husband Steve, to raise money for the Brain Tumour Research Charity as chosen by Luke Webber.
I was inspired to raise money for this charity after meeting Luke at an open day for the secondary school my eldest son was due to start the following September.
We began talking to Luke on the curriculum enrichment stall where he was telling us about an amazing trip he was hoping to go on to Iceland. He explained he may not be able to go due to his health, I asked him about this and he told me about his brain tumour and the impacts it was having on his life in and out of school.
I never forgot the meeting we had with Luke that day and his amazing positivity, despite what was happening with his health. He really was so inspiring. Therefore as soon as I got my new bike and saw this cycling event advertised, I knew I had to do it for Luke and his family.
So me and my husband Steve, have been training for the past few months in all weathers including rain, sleet, snow and sometimes sun, to take part in this event and raise as much as possible for Brain Tumour Research.
Here is a little bit more about Luke:
Luke Webber had suffered with headaches and double vision for about a year before being diagnosed with a low-grade craniopharyngioma in 2020 at the age of 12. Now 15, Luke , from Stevenage in Hertfordshire, has undergone two surgeries and proton beam therapy, and is being monitored with regular scans. He has been left with a number of lifechanging chronic conditions.
Here is this link to Luke’s story which is written by his dad Peter:

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer… yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. This is unacceptable!
I am fundraising for Brain Tumour Research as they are the only national charity dedicated to funding long-term, sustainable research in the UK. Please help me fund the fight. Together we will find a cure.
