Scafell Pike Hike, 7 May 2023
To mark the Centre's 20th anniversary we are inviting people throughout the year to join us in our fundraising efforts. Using the theme of 20, we hope to raise £20,000 to continue our work of supporting anyone whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Story

We are doing this hike in in memory of my husband Ian Astbury, who passed away on 5th July 2022.

He would have been 54 years old on the 9th May 2023 and so we are doing the hike around the time to mark his Birthday.

A hike of Scafell Pike has been chosen as me and my husband loved hiking and have done Snowdon, Helvellyn and Ben Nevis. We never got to do Scafell Pike and so me and my friends will Hike Scafell Pike in memory of my husband.

The chosen charity Bury Cancer Support offered both myself and my husband support over the last 2 years and I want to give something back to them.

Bury Cancer Support Centre is an independent self-funding charity, supporting those whose lives are touched by cancer. We are based in Bury but serve Greater Manchester and beyond.

The 1st of April will mark our 20th Anniversary! Throughout the coming year we wish to mark this wonderful anniversary by giving thanks, celebrating and fundraising.

Our development from half a day per week in a church hall to 5 days a week in a fit for purpose building has been remarkable. This has only been achieved and made possible by the dedication, hard work and commitment of our staff, trustees and volunteers.

None of this could have been possible without the financial support and fundraising efforts of businesses throughout the North West and wonderful groups and individuals such as yourselves.

Our hope is to raise £20,000 over the year using the number 20 as our fundraising theme. Details of events, ideas and plans will be available on this page, our instagram and Facebook page.
