Story
My beloved husband John lived with the always fatal disease IPF (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) for 6 years and sadly died of it in July 2023. St Michael's Hospice were wonderful in their palliative care and support through the last 8 months of his life when he was needing increasing amounts of oxygen. Help too was organised in claiming benefits to which he was entitled, and his blue badge etc. The hospice team were wonderful too with counselling support for John and myself. He spent his last few days as a hospice in-patient where he was cared for wonderfully and kindly. The family too received such support during this time and around his death, and I continue to benefit from the bereavement support programme that they offer. It was such a comfort that John spent his last days exactly where he wanted to be, and suffered the least distress possible with this horrible disease throughout the time of the hospice's support. It's now my time to support the hospice with fundraising so the team can continue its brilliant work, so that others can have such help to die comfortably and peacefully, and partners and families can receive such support at often the worst time in their lives.
