Story
Hi, I’m going to Mumbai at the end of February to volunteer with the World Veterinary service to Vaccinate dogs both domestic and stray against rabies. There will be teams walking over 15km each day netting stray dogs and going door to door vaccinating pet dogs and collecting data on an app. We hope to vaccinate at least 70% of the population in just 1 week, quite a challenge! Days will be long and weather hot but it will be worth it to eliminate rabies on the Mumbai Peninsula.
I need to raise £350 to join the campaign so please give whatever you can. I appreciate any donation big or small. Thank you, Linda
Around the world someone dies from rabies every 9 minutes. You can help change this.
Over 99% of human rabies cases are caused by an infected dog bite. Once symptoms of the disease develop, it is fatal.
Every year, millions of healthy dogs are inhumanely killed for fear of this deadly disease. However, this doesn't halt the spread of rabies, which causes the deaths of around 59,000 people a year – the majority of which are children under 15.
Science shows that the most effective long-term rabies control strategy is through vaccination of dogs in endemic areas, so we head to rabies hotspots and run mass vaccination and education programmes - protecting both the human and canine populations.
Crucially, it's working. Human deaths in our key project sites have all but been eliminated and we'll keep going until it's zero all around the world.
Be a part of this life-saving mission!
