Acta Non-Verba: Service and Adventure in the Amazon
Hundreds of communities along the Amazon River in Brazil need care and support - and we are ready to serve them!
Hi my name is Lila Qazilbash!
I have wanted to go on a Deer Lake mission trip since I was in elementary school. Throughout my time at Deer Lake, I have witnessed the profound impact that mission trips have on both the volunteers and the communities they serve. These trips allow us to reach out and minister to those who do not enjoy the same resources and living conditions as we do. I have been inquiring about the mission trip since before last year, when discussions about our potential participation finally began. When they announced the destination as Brazil, I was ecstatic. I believe that going on this mission trip would provide me with a perspective I have never experienced before. It would also help me recognize my privilege; despite my complaints, many people live with far less yet remain happier than I am. One of the most important values to me is maintaining a broad worldview. I believe this opportunity should not be taken for granted, and I feel that God is calling me to make a difference, not only in my life but also in the lives of others.
