Story
Team Lightship Atlantic, Nia and Pammie, are currently taking part in the World’s Toughest Row, covering 3000 nautical miles from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to English Harbour, Antigua in aid of Kidney Wales....Supporting Families and Changing Lives.
With one half of the pair having recently donated a kidney to her brother, supporting Kidney Wales couldn't be more relevant.
For 50 years Kidney Wales has been at the forefront of patient care, wellbeing and research for families living with this chronic illness. The monies raised have enabled them to provide life saving equipment, fund staff and refurbishments for units and most recently change the law on organ donation in Wales.
Patients are at the heart of everything they do, which has highly influenced their ambition to build a Wellness Centre in Wales for families struggling with the condition daily.
There are 93,722 of the Welsh population diagnosed with Kidney Disease. 3,297 of these with Chronic Kidney Disease on renal replacement therapy which includes dialysis, transplant or palliative care. Chronic Kidney Disease is a life long, life threatening condition, there are multiple treatments but unfortunately no cure.
Kidney Wales vision is to unite the Welsh kidney community to enable pioneering world class care, support and well-being services. They provide information, advice and assistance to patients and families
Kidney Wales does not receive any government funding, we rely on the generosity of the general public to continue our life changing work.
Thank you for supporting this challenge. Every penny raised will support patients and families living with kidney disease in Wales.
