Story
I've been running the London Marathon for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust for quite a few years now but missed the last two because of chronic injuries. Most of you know my story and why this charity means so much to me. I've been running for over 32 years and clocked over 113,000 miles in the process which is why I have had some bad injuries develop over the years. I'm going to give it a go this year again and forget about my usual sub 3hrs 30mins finishing time and just concentrate on completing it. I miss the buzz so much and the main reason for me to keep going is to keep raising valuable funds in our goal to try and beat CF for good. Not forgetting the 10% that have no drugs as well. Very proud to have won The 2020 Pride of Britain NI Award, plus reached over £300k in fundraising, celebrated my 60th birthday while completing the London marathon all in the same weekend in 2021.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.
Cystic fibrosis comes with challenges, affecting our physical health, mental wellbeing and how we choose to live our lives. But our community is uniting towards the ultimate goal of effective treatment for all.
Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the charity uniting people to stop cystic fibrosis.
