Story

On Sunday 21st April 2024, Lewis, Jamie & Joe will be running the London Marathon for the amazing Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC), representing team QBE.

We are taking on this challenge with the goal of raising as much money and awareness as possible for this incredible charity, with a target of reaching £7,500 in total. QBE will kindly match every donation pound-for-pound, so any amount you donate will be doubled in aid of RSBC.

There are an estimated 44,000 blind and partially sighted children in England and Wales. Each day, four more children will be diagnosed with sight loss. Due to a lack of opportunity and access to positive social experiences, two-thirds of these children will live below the poverty line, and 90% of them will go on to face long-term unemployment as adults.

With this in mind, and the fact that many blind young people will never have a meaningful relationship, one in three blind children will suffer from depression and mental health issues, which is over two times the average rate for all children in the UK.

RSBC helps blind children reach their potential by supporting them and their families to provide a positive environment as they grow up through family support services, safe spaces, and running a Further Education College in Bromley to help blind youngsters upskill. All of this helps blind children to develop the confidence and independence they need to develop, while building meaningful relationships along the way.

We can't wait to get going and bring you on this amazing journey with us!
