Story
Hey, thanks for stopping by my fundraiser for St Barts Hospital.
Why am I raising funds for St Barts?
Funnily enough, I am quite late when it comes to creating this profile, because I was actually procrastinating.
Funny, well not actually, but fitting as just like I was tardy in writing this page, pancreatic cancer has one of the highest mortality rates, because it is more often than not discovered late and, therefore, at an advanced stage. You can read up more on it here: https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/pancreatic-cancer/survival
To me, creating this page, meant acknowledging that I was raising funds for Barts because yet another person dear to my heart is fighting for their life. My grandpa passed of liver cancer when he was 69 years young. I was 9 at the time.
This loved one, is no other than my dad. He's also Jason, Jocelyn, Joshua, Johan and Jaylen's dad. He turned 66 this year, making him exactly twice my age.
He's still got so much life to live. So whilst my dad is being brave, going through rounds of chemo fighting pancreatic cancer at Barts, I want to put my health to good use and get my steps in.
I will be joining the Barts Hike for Health to be part of the historic 900th anniversary celebrations of St Bartholomew's Hospital. Walking 15km from the Hospital to various landmarks in East London like the Docklands and back.
What are the funds going to be used for you ask?
By taking on Barts Hike for Health I'm supporting life-changing healthcare for East London.
I'm helping Barts Charity raise money for two important health projects for patients in East London.
One is a new breast cancer centre at St. Bartholomew's Hospital that will not only improve breast cancer outcomes, but will also help make a significant contribution to global research, saving lives for generations.
The second is the creation of a new Clinical Research Facility at the Royal London Hospital that will allow more clinical trials to take place in East London. That could mean earlier access to life-changing treatments for local people and the diverse community being better represented in this vital research.
So please help with a donation to my page if you are able and share with others who might want to contribute to this cause as well.
Thank you,
Jen
