We're going to be swimming in Shepperton Lake for 24 hours.

Our team is made up of Letchworth Lido swimmers and lifeguards. Two of us are above Knee amputees. Some members of the team have taught swimming to children with disabilities. We are all good friends brought together by our common love for swimming at Letchworth Lido.

The challenge is in the endurance, the team work and camaraderie to support each other for the duration. It’s the 2am cold swims when we just want to sleep. It’s the hugs of relief at the end of each hour knowing we've just ticked off another hour.

It’s being huddled around the fire pit with a hot chocolate and dancing to keep warm. It’s cheering the sunrise.

We're doing it to raise money for Level Water who provide 1-to-1 swimming lessons for children with disabilities. For many disabled children it is only in water that they can move around freely, without needing the support of wheelchairs, crutches or artificial limbs. We know the joy and freedom that swimming brings to our lives. We want all children to have this opportunity, whatever their ability.
