Story
I am taking part in a skydive on the 11th May 2024!
Max was taken into A&E on the 6th February 2023 at 4 months old. He was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital due to having a brain injury and Addenbrooke’s was the nearest specialist. Max was put onto a ventilator and transported by the PaNDR team.
Naturally I didn’t want to leave his side let alone drive back to Thetford from Cambridge each day. It was hard to sleep knowing he was in PICU and I couldn’t be by his side but it was much easier knowing that I had a home from home in Acorn House at the hospital.
The Sick Children’s Trust gave myself and my sister (Yasmin) a place to stay so that we could be on hand should Max’s condition change. Given that we arrived in a hurry we were given a care pack to freshen up in the morning. Each home has a kitchen, sofa area and facilities to do washing. They have phones in each room so that PICU can always get through to you.
I can’t imagine how hard it would have been having to leave Max each day if Acorn House didn’t have a space for me, it meant being able to see him whenever I needed.
I feel sad that this is a charity that not many people hear about and when you do hear about them it’s usually for a sad reason for yourself or someone you know. I’d like to not only raise money for them but also awareness to those I know of all the homes they have around the UK.
Thank you Sick Children’s Trust!
………………..
When a child suddenly becomes ill, there's no time to plan. The Sick Children's Trust is the charity that gives families one less thing to worry about by giving them a place to stay, and someone to talk to, free of charge just minutes from their child's bedside.
With the help of so many generous supporters, like our daredevil skydivers, we have helped over 73,000 families since 1982, with a welcoming place to stay when they have really needed it.
