Story
Each year Good Hope Hospital SCBU (special care baby unit) cares for thousands of babies, some of whom are born early.
Last year Keri and myself became fully aware of their amazing work when they helped bring Reuben Frank Bashford into the world, almost 2 months early- luckily thanks to the work of SCBU, the maternity department and countless other people at good hope this was relatively uneventful and he was able to come home to us within 2 weeks of his birth. Despite this, lots of other parents and babies go through far more of an ordeal and the SCBU work tirelessly to ensure that premature and sick babies get the best start in life as well as supporting their parents along the way.
The neonatal Unit provides 24 hour care for these babies using dedicated breathing machines, incubators and state of the art monitoring machines.
The hospital charity aims to support the unit in providing the most advanced medical equipment, over and above NHS Funding.
The Charity also aims to provide mothers and families with the added extras that they need to ensure that their stay on the ward is as comfortable as possible by providing soft furnishings such as comfortable feeding chairs, and plans to refurbish the parent overnight room and feeding room.
