Where to start? At the beginning is as good a place as any.
In September 2024, Tiny was given the devastating news that he had prostate cancer and shortly after told that the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes and his bones.
Tiny is using his diagnosis to raise awareness of prostate cancer, a cancer that if caught early enough is very easy to treat with a high survival rate.
In raising awareness, Tiny is hoping that it will encourage others to get tested.
To raise awareness, Tiny has not only bravely and openly shared his story from the start, he is also having a Prostate Cancer UK tattoo done on December 18th. This tattoo is being done at no cost by John Sheppard, aka Johnny Tattoo and Sarah Sheppard of Twinkles and Ink in Crickhowell.
Johnny lost his father to prostate cancer 34 years ago, so it's a cause very close to his home and heart.
Tiny is hoping to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK, so all and any donations will be gratefully received.
Donations can be given via the Just Giving link, Tiny, or over the bar at Talgarth Town Football Club.
Keep on fighting Tiny, stay strong.
TIny has since visited and spoken with his oncologist and has the following to share:
So todays appointment with the oncologist wasn't the news we hoped for... It has spread far and wide and is non curable.
I got to see my Scans that showed the cancers presence heavy in my pelvis, in all vertebrae up the spine, practically every rib, both shoulder joints and even some behind the left eye. And she explained the infected lymph nodes at the top of my femurs are what is causing my swelling in my leg.
At this point, I have been offered a choice of two treatments that will hopefully control the take over and prolong my time here. A daily hormone tablet based treatment with weekly bloods and monitoring until signs of progression then a round of chemo if possible or 6 rounds of chemotherapy - every 3 weeks for 18 weeks and then onto the hormone tablets.
Either way I start treatment on Monday, the dreaded question was asked but the consultant refused to answer it and said I had already received enough news to take in for one day and to ask it again next week if I feel I still want to know.
It's alot for me and my family to process and I am definitely still in shock.
**UPDATE**
After 3 courses of chemotherapy, Tiny's PSA levey has dropped from a staggering 739 to 120 which is amazing!
His brother was also diagnosed with prostate cancer and had his prostate removed within a month of diagnosis. 6 weeks on he has been back for a check up and his PSA reading has come back at 0.001, undetectable! He has been given the all clear with a follow-up PSA check every 3 months for the next 2 years.
Awareness is definitely key...please get tested. The earlier the better!
Prevention is better than cure...as there is no cure.
