Reading Half Marathon 2025 · 23 March 2025 ·
Harrison was diagnosed with Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) at the age of 4. He has always struggled to climb the stairs, run and jump. Over the years it has slowly got progressively harder for him to do these activities. He always tries his best to lead a normal life and join in where he can and rarely complains or gets upset by his limitations.
As a parent of a child with a life limiting condition it is heart-breaking to watch him struggle and not being able to tell him everything will be ok, when there is no certainty it will. All we can do is keep smiling. And with the help of MDUK, friends, and family, raise as much money as possible to help the scientists try to find a treatment or cure.
On the 23rd of March 2025 I will be running the Reading Half marathon! (21k) in aid for HOPE 4 HARRISON. This will be my first ever Half marathon… Training will definitely be needed however I know my body is able to handle this whereas not everyone in this world is that fortunate.
Growing up close to Harrison… It’s heart breaking to see his struggles progress further as we grew up. Harrison has a Life limiting disease which affects 1 in 3500 boys. The muscles of children with Muscular dystrophy do not repair after they get damaged & this leads to immobility. It really puts into perspective how fortunate we are to just move our body in however we feel. I’m fortunate enough to be able to run. Let alone run a whole half marathon. I think we know Harrison faces a lot more challenges than 21k! It’s a challenge but only short term.
Your donations will be split 80/20 between MDUK's research into Becker muscular dystrophy and to help support Hope4Harrison with future welfare needs.
