Story

Many of us will struggle with our mental health, something which manifests itself in many ways. Some of us have struggled with it ourselves, while others know people who have or are currently struggling. According to Mind:

1-in-4 people have mental health problems, but most of us don’t get the help we need.

Mind fights for better services and rights for people with mental health problems, and pushes to improve public attitudes to mental health as well as supporting people through face-to-face and online services.

What our team is setting out to prove is that model railways as a hobby is a great way to unwind, switch off, bond with like-minded people to help improve your mental health.

Over the course of September 20th/21st, we will be building a fully functional model railway layout live at the Spa Valley Railway in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, as part of the Model Railway show there. In a similar vein to the Channel 5 programme 'The Great Model Railway Challenge' (which some of the team were also participants of) we'll arrive with the baseboards and a plan, but near enough everything else will be built 'live', showing what goes into building a model railway and how fun it can be.

The team comprises:

Max Davies (TGMRC contestant, 'Railway Children')

Paul Lawrence (TGMRC contestant, 'Team Pheonix')

Alex Goodman

George Dibben

We'll be livestreaming the build too, so if you can't make it in person you can tune in online to see:
