Story
As a recently qualified Mental Health Nurse from Liverpool John Moores University, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with men experiencing acute mental health crises in various psychiatric hospitals and helping many men of all ages manage their mental health in the community. This experience has deeply shaped my perspective - not only as a nurse, but ignited a personal commitment to tackling the devastating issue of male suicide.
James’ Place is a Liverpool-born charity making a real, lasting difference in the lives of men facing suicidal crisis. Supporting a charity rooted in the same city where I trained and began my journey as a nurse feels incredibly meaningful - it’s a way of giving back to a community that shaped both my career and my purpose.
As a woman, I believe it speaks volumes to stand in support of this cause. Fundraising for James’ Place is my way of challenging the stigma that keeps many men suffering in silence. I want to help shift the narrative, reminding men that vulnerability is strength and that reaching out is not only brave, but life-saving.
In the UK, suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 35 and men consistently account for around three-quarters of suicides. Every donation to James’ Place goes directly towards offering life-saving support to men in suicidal crisis. Together, we can help change lives and save them.
