Story
Archaeologists Lawrence Shaw and Harry Manley are gearing up for an extraordinary adventure. They will embark on a 250-mile cycling journey, starting at London Waterloo and culminating at the iconic Lion's Mound Memorial on the Waterloo Battlefield. This incredible ride, which will be filmed for a special episode of Time Team, promises breathtaking coastal views, picturesque English countryside, and the historic landscapes of the Netherlands and Flanders—all in support of a remarkable cause. They will also finish at the famous battle ground during the 2024 excavations and see first hand some of the incredible work and archaeology being undertaken.
Riding for Waterloo Uncovered
Lawrence and Harry’s journey is dedicated to raising funds for Waterloo Uncovered, a groundbreaking charity that combines world-class archaeological research on the Waterloo battlefield with expert veteran care and recovery. Each year, Waterloo Uncovered expands its scope, using archaeology to enhance the wellbeing, education, and recovery of veterans and serving personnel, many of whom have experienced mental or physical impacts from their service.
Supporting Veterans and Serving Personnel
Waterloo Uncovered’s mission goes beyond archaeology. The charity runs four unique Veteran Support Programmes, offering year-round assistance from an experienced team of wellbeing professionals. These programmes have helped hundreds of veterans and serving personnel transition into civilian life, exploring new interests, education, and employment opportunities in a supportive environment.
A Ride with Purpose
As Lawrence and Harry pedal through historic landscapes and scenic routes, every mile they cover will contribute to a greater cause. Every £ donated will help Waterloo Uncovered provide support for more veterans and serving military personnel, fostering both the exploration of the past and the building of promising futures for those who have served their country.
Join Lawrence and Harry in their epic journey, support their cause, and help make a difference in the lives of those who have given so much. Follow their adventure and be part of this unique fusion of history, archaeology, and veteran support.
