Story
This disease has affected my family twice now. My Grandad sadly ended up with this cruel disease at the end of his life so I witnessed first hand the effect it had. I was only 9 at the time but I remember visiting him almost everyday & couldn't understand why over time he kept forgetting certain things about me to eventually not recognising me atall. This hit me hard as a child as I couldn't get my head around it. I just remember thinking when I am older I want to help people just like My Grandad.
My first job was in a care home for just over 7years, on a alzheimers suite. This not only brang out confidence in me as a person but it made me view life from a whole different level. To be able to make a difference in somebody's day to day living is both comforting & rewarding. I built wonderful relationships with my residents & their families over the years, which I will treasure forever. I saw first hand how this disease can effect people's speech, movement & memory and what impact it had on families and loved ones.
Now as an adult I am now seeing it all over again with my grandad (mums dad) who has recently been diagnosed with this awful disease but this time I understand this disease alot more and feel this is something that is very close to my heart and I want to make a difference no matter how big or small.
Alzheimers doesn't discriminate and can affect absolutely anyone. A sky dive is something that's always been on my bucket list, so I thought why not jump for this wonderful charity and try to make a difference.
