Story
Skydiving is always something that I’ve wanted to tick off my bucket list. So I’ve decided to finally book a Skydive for charity!
I’m going to be skydiving in aid of Diabetes UK. Diabetes is an illness that is close to mine, my friends and my family’s hearts. It’s an illness that my dad and other family members live with as well as my friend’s little boy, Rory.
Rory was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes a week after his 2nd birthday, 11 years before the average age of diagnosis! By the time I do my skydive, Rory will be turning 5, which will mark 3 years since his diagnosis. Sadly, he will never know life without diabetes as currently there isn’t a cure. His parents have both been AMAZING at navigating the changes to their lifestyles which involves counting carbs, finger prick tests, injecting insulin, installing a Dexcom and the added worries with recently starting school. Diabetes UK supports parents with resources such as information on pens and pumps, support groups and support forums. As Rory grows up, he will have to learn how to manage his diabetes himself.
I (and I’m sure many others too) often overlook how fortunate I am to be living without a chronic illness. However, many don’t have that luxury and can often live in fear of the complications associated with diabetes or other chronic illnesses.
Any money fundraised for Diabetes UK goes towards their care and support services, advice and guidance, and pioneering research to hopefully find a cure in the future.
How could your donation help?
• £30 could help more people receive crucial information and advice on their diabetes.
• £60 could train new professional helpline advisors to help answer every call.
• £100 could kick start investment into high-quality research projects which could shape the future of diabetes care.
I really appreciate any donation you’re able to give towards my fundraiser. Thank you xx
