Story
During both of my pregnancies I suffered with a rare liver condition called intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP- also known as obstetric cholestasis) I was diagnosed a few weeks after the UK went into lockdown, while pregnant with my first baby and it was a huge shock. The charity ICP held online zoom calls during this time to support women like me, and it made me feel less alone and gave me the knowledge about the condition that I needed, in order to advocate for myself and my baby. I was also lucky to receive fantastic NHS care, with constant monitoring through both pregnancies, resulting in my two beautiful, healthy children. This fundraising is my way of thanking this charity for their support at what was quite a terrifying time.
We are a small charity called ICP Support, which supports families suffering from or having suffered from this pregnancy-related condition called intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy. ICP affects around 5,500 women a year in the UK and is associated with premature labour, fetal distress and, in the worst cases, stillbirth. Our vision is that every ICP baby is born safely.
