Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Here I go again!!! I must be mad!

On Sunday the 8th of September i will be running the Great North Run again, my 13th run in memory of Jessie and 10 Great North Runs in a row, if you don’t include COVID! It seemed only fitting to mark the occasion, I tried my best to go for a Guinness World Record but they knocked me back. So here I am, doing my crazy plan anyway! I wanted my record to be “The most number of petticoats worn at a half marathon” but despite a lot of back and forth, it was considered to be unbreakable once it was set. So for every £50 I raise, I will add another layer of tulle! Got to be worth it for the laugh and entertainment 😂 If you know me at all you will know i'm not a natural runner, I’m only in it for the braggers rights and the crazy addiction I have to this event!

So, I need all the help and motivation I can get... hopefully i will make it to the end in one piece with minimal chafing!

Here’s my story…. On May the 5th 2012 my beautiful niece Jessica passed away in her sleep aged just 14 weeks. Jessica has a twin sister, Kimberly 12yrs, older twin brothers Joshua and Nathan 18yrs and now a little brother called Chester who is 5yrs old.

Jessie was a happy and healthy baby who went to sleep and awoke with the angels. She was reaching her milestones, developing her personality, smiling, starting to talk back to us and had the amazing ability to wrap a vast number of people around her tiny finger!! If you never got the chance to meet Jessie you can be assured that with one look you would be spellbound! Jessie's death has left a pain in the hearts of her family that can never be healed.

As an Auntie and a Sister I want to do all that I can to make a difference to my family, i can't take away the pain but i can put on my running shoes and raise some awareness and some money! It brings us all comfort to raise money to fund research, support families and raise awareness to prevent sudden and unexpected deaths of babies.

We do not know why 'Cot Death' happens but maybe one day we can find a reason. Since the launch of the 'reduce the risk' campaign in 1991, rates of cot death have fallen by 70%. In 2017, 183 babies passed away with no known cause, a record low but still too high a number! Imagine what is possible in the future if we continue to support this cause and raise awareness!

Kimmy was looked after by the care of next infant scheme, they monitored her health weekly to make sure she was healthy and bring some much needed reassurance to our family. The scheme also loaned us a monitor to check on Kimmy’s heart rate and breathing while she slept. Please donate to this amazing charity to help fund their research and allow them to continue to support families through the difficult loss of a baby
