In 2020 my Grandad began showing the early signs of Dementia, after a 2 and a half year battle against new symptoms and finding a way of managing with this life changing disease, he finally received a formal diagnoses of Alzheimer’s.

He’s forever been the grafter, the glue of the family, our rock, the poet, the happiest, funniest and cuddliest guy, not merely forgetting the centre my world.

I had just started working in care when Grandad became ill, I completed my training in Dementia and for 3 years through the pandemic, I supported individuals living with Dementia.

I witnessed some of the best times but I also saw first hand, how detrimental this terrible disease interferes with these individual’s everyday activities.

So this charity holds a special place in my heart.

In 2022, I set off on the Yorkshire Three Peaks to take on the 21 mile route in 12 hours and raised over £600 for Alzheimer’s! But this year, I’m stepping it up a level!!!… I will be taking on my second marathon hike!!! In June, I will be taking on the 26 mile route around the Brecon Beacons to raise more vital funds for Alzheimer’s Society.

Alzheimer’s Society work towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future.
