Story

Hello All!

My wonderful mother Sue passed away in December 2022 at the age of 61 due to septic shock, this came from a short illness of pneumonia. Unfortunately the medical professionals she was being treated by missed the signs of sepsis which led to our devastating loss after only 24 hours in hospital .

Not only have I lost my best friend, we have lost our mother, 10 children have lost their grandmother, her siblings have lost their sister and her friends have lost someone they could count on for anything.

I have decided to run a half marathon in her memory and help raise awareness of this heartbreaking condition, to help spread the knowledge of symptoms to look out for and preventions to take, with hope that this will help other avoid the same fate as my mum. As with the correct knowledge and training she could very well still be here with us today.

I am not a runner, the most I have ever run for is a bus ! But for her I will smash this!!

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
