Story
VOCAL is the Voice of Carers Across Lothian – an organization run by carers for carers since 1994. Our carer support teams work tirelessly with unpaid carers to help identify the issues affecting them and achieve the best possible outcome. With centers in Edinburgh and Midlothian, as well as staff based in the community, we provide individualized support to carers, including collaboration with other agencies, referral to benefit, legal or power of attorney surgeries, and access to a range of resources. We are thrilled to announce our upcoming personal challenge event - a skydive on October 9, 2024. Our goal is to raise £500 to further our mission of supporting carers across Lothian. Join us in making a difference for those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.
Hi I'm Laura Whitehead, a parent of children with disabilities. I have 2 children who have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. This displays very differently in both children and their needs are very different which comes with many challenges. Everyday feels like a guessing game and im just trying to find the right answer for my children who cannot communicate for themselves.
I have received a lot of help from vocal. This has been for financial advice and what help we are entitled to, emotional support and advice when i have felt unsure and isolated, sensory equipment for my child when they needed a weighted blanket to aid in sleep at night, and also some well needed respite. I am very grateful that i found vocal and i would love to give something back and i am doing this by jumping out of a plane at 15000ft!!
Thank you vocal!
