I’m running the Manchester Half this year, and the Hackney Half in 2025, in support of Hackney Night Shelter. HNS has been working with the community to provide shelter and support homeless guests for over 25 years.

According to data published in April this year, 4,118 people were recorded as sleeping in London’s streets between January and March 2024 (an increase of 33% on the same time as last year), with 2038 of those unhoused for the first time (an increase of 37% since 2023). Facing a cost of living crisis, a dramatic rise in unsuitable temporary accommodation in London, detrimental housing and welfare policies, an absence of targeted and effective measures to address the rough sleeping, the number of people facing homelessness is likely to rise significantly in the coming months and years.
