Story
In less than one month's time I will be embarking on my first ever half marathon!
I am running in support of The Lily Foundation, a charity which aims to give hope, answers and support to the many children and families that face the challenges of Mitochondrial Disease.
Mitochondrial disease is a rare genetic disorder that can affect people in very different ways. Symptoms can start at any age and can involve any organ in the body. The Lily Foundation was founded in Lily's memory, having lost her battle to Mitochondrial Disease at just eight months old.
There is currently no cure for this disease which is for many, debilitating and life limiting. However, treatments to manage symptoms are available and there is active research taking place globally to find a cure.
Every twenty minutes a child is born who will develop Mitochondrial Disease by the age of 16.
This will be a huge personal challenge for me, but the families affected by Mitochodrial Disease face significant challenges daily. So please give what you can to support this fantastic organisation and I'll give it everything I've got.
Thank you,
Laura
