Story
On world sepsis day 13/09/2024, we (Joan, David and Emma) will be starting the first leg of our challenge to walk from Cromer to Hunstanton. Day one is to walk the 24 miles to Wells and on Day 2 we will complete our walk to Hunstanton. A 48 mile journey along the beautiful North Norfolk Coastal path, an area much loved by Laura.
We have set a £1,000 fundraising target but obviously hope to exceed this for Sepsis research.
In May 2023 our beautiful daughter / sister Laura aged 37 suddenly felt unwell and in the early hours she collapsed. Laura was rushed to hospital, and placed on Life support. 12 hours after collapsing Laura lost her battle.
The coroner later confirmed that the cause was septic shock yet there had been no obvious sign of infection.
Our lives were turned upside down by this tragedy and we now want to focus our energies in stopping this happening to others.
In Laura's memory we want to promote awareness of this indiscriminate and brutal condition and to raise vital funds for research.
Sepsis Research FEAT is a registered charity (SC049399) and we are the UK’s only sepsis research charity.
Sepsis accounts for around 50,000 deaths in the UK every year - that's more than breast and bowel cancer combined.
We don't understand enough about sepsis and the biological processes that can lead to serious illness or even death. That is why we urgently need to increase funding:
- to raise awareness of sepsis
- for research: to understand the processes that lead to sepsis, to design effective treatments for it & to help save lives.
