Story
Hi everyone,
Myself, Kevin and Jasper will be completing Oli's Safari Walk on Sunday 12th May 2024.
This will be Jasper's very first fundraiser and we will be collecting sponsorship to raise money for Alder Hey Children's Charity. We can't thank the staff at Alder Hey enough for the care and support they gave, and continue to give to us as a family.
Jasper has cystic fibrosis and will require lifelong treatment and hospital appointments for this genetic condition. We spent the first months of Jasper's life being cared for on the neonatal surgical unit in Alder Hey and the support given to us truly was exceptional.
Cystic fibrosis causes the production of abnormally thick mucus, which results in internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, becoming clogged with thick sticky mucus resulting in chronic infections and inflammation in the lungs and difficulty digesting food.
Jasper had emergency surgery at three days old to remove an obstruction (meconium ileus) from his bowel. This included having a section of his bowel removed and a stoma constructed. Jasper has since had a second surgery to reverse his stoma and takes medication multiple times a day, including enzymes before eating and regular antibiotics.
We visit Alder Hey hospital regularly for monitoring clinics, emergency cough swabs and for annual investigations. We will always be grateful for having this incredible children's hospital here in the North West.
If you are able to add a donation we would be very grateful and will be proud to donate to this incredible charity so they can continue helping so many children and families.
