Lara's fundraiser for HEROS

Lara Horn is raising money for HEROS

Charity Race at Newbury Racecourse · 1 June 2026

Hundreds of racehorses finish racing each year, with some disappearing off the radar. HEROS helps find new homes and careers for ex-racehorses when they have finished racing giving them a fresh start and a new and happy life.

Story

I’m thrilled to share that on Monday 1st June, I will be one of ten riders taking part in the HEROS Charity Race at Newbury Racecourse.

Having been due to ride in the 2020 Greatwood Charity Race – so generously supported by friends and family – before it was sadly called off due to COVID, it’s especially exciting to have the opportunity again.

It feels particularly fitting as I now work closely with the brilliant Newbury team on their PR and have a much-loved ex-racehorse of my own.

Riding at such an incredible racecourse will be a truly unique experience, and certainly not one I will take for granted. While I’m often found in the saddle, this will be my first time riding in a race of this kind, so a lot of work will need to be done on getting my fitness up to scratch!

HEROS Charity focuses on the retraining and rehoming of former racehorses, recognising their potential for a second career once their racing days are over.

Alongside providing each horse in their care with the best possible life, HEROS also delivers a range of education and training programmes, specialising in engaging SEN students and those who may be struggling in mainstream education. In doing this they help young people progress towards the workplace and find a renewed sense of purpose.

A huge thank you goes to Dan Skelton, who is very kindly providing me with a horse for the big day.

I would be incredibly grateful for any support in helping me reach my fundraising target, and I’d love to see you there on the day if you can make it.

Many thanks,

Lara x
