Story
On the 10th of July 2024, I will be climbing the Lagginhorn, a 4010-metre peak in the Pennine Alps in Switzerland. I will be ascending by the West Ridge through rocks, snowfields and glaciers.
For me this is a significant physical and mental challenge due to the conditions, training leading up to it and most importantly, the reason behind the ascent. I will be donating all funds raised towards Hospiscare, which is a local Hospice in Exeter. Hospiscare supports end of life care, both in-house and through a specialist nursing team which cares for over 2000 adults every year across Devon. This end of life care includes cancer, heart disease and any other terminal illness. This is a cause extremely close to my heart and I’m sure to many others, as most of us will have come across family members or friends affected, in particular by cancer.
The statistics for cancer is now 1 in 2 people.
All money raised will help provide critical care for those suffering from cancer and other terminal illnesses as well as their families, carers and specifically specialist nurses. Even if you are not in the position to donate, talking and raising awareness is just as valuable, especially in terms of early diagnosis.
