There is no cure for Huntingtons disease and over 8,000 people have the condition and over 32,000 people are at risk from inheriting this hereditary, neurological disease.
It is an all-consuming genetic condition that affects whole families and beyond to the extended families.
The nerve cells in the brain mean you lose control of movement, memory and mood. If a parent has the disease, then their children have a 50:50 chance of inheriting it. Symptoms usually start between the ages of 30 and 50 but there are more and more cases being found with young children and teenagers.
The Huntington's Disease Association supports anyone who is affected by Huntington's disease across England and Wales. They pursue the best possible care; provide training & advice to families and professionals; raise awareness, and promote research towards better treatment and care.
