Story
Friends,
It's fast become a story of social ridicule, but a few months ago, I signed up to run the 2024 Brighton Marathon.
At the time, the thought of running through my former university coastal town for 26.4 miles seemed like an exhilarating prospect.
Four months later, it's a bit too real. In fact it's two days away.
Training has been, well, "light touch but respectful".
Some have asked if you can support. So I'll gratefully send any sponsorship to Our Dementia Choir, a charity in Nottingham that believes in the "incredible power of music to bring happiness, connection, and comfort to those affected by dementia".
Having seen the effect choral music can have on creating bonds of connection through families, I love the idea of (finally) leaving London, running through old familiar territory laced with memories and supporting people to find the unique threads of connection that only music - particularly singing - can unlock.
Anyway, I don’t want to get too sanctimonious about it all. Donate if you can, and if you can’t, hope to see you sometime after Sunday...
Thanks for reading.
