Welcoming runners to run the Ipswich Half Marathon in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice

Story

On the 17th of September, I will be running the Ipswich half marathon for Zest. Zest holds a special place in mine and my family heart due to how much they helped Mason which has inspired me to help them. I am beyond thankful for everything Zest and their team did for my brother Mason before he passed away.

Mason was taken to St Elizabeth hospice for end of life care in April some how we were then lucky enough for 3 amazing beautiful months extra with our special brother. Mason unfortunately passed away on 21st July after being transferred to Ipswich hospital. Every day I would visit Mason in the hospice and the staff would help my Mum and Dad with Masons care. As a family we are forever appreciative for all their love and support through the toughest 3 months of our lives.

So a little bit about Zest and what they did for Mason, Mason use to attend their Tuesday exchange evening once a month which he absolutely loved they would play games listen to music and have his favourite Chinese. Then on Fridays he went there for day care, again he would have the best time enjoying time with his friends and the staff. Smiling and just enjoying life.

This is the reason why I needed to do this in honour of my brother, but now it’s in memory of Mason. My brother, my hero, my best friend and the person who inspires me everyday. I hope I make you proud Mase💙🩵

St Elizabeth Hospice has been developing Zest since 2015, working closely with childrens hospice services to ensure young adults have a smooth transition into adult care.

Zest supports young adults aged 14 and upwards with progressive and incurable illnesses to ensure that they get the specialist care, tailored treatment and services they need to be able to enjoy life to the full.

Through this specialist care, young adults with challenging conditions are able to fulfil their aspirations, whether this is to manage their symptoms, access opportunities in the community and reduce loneliness by enabling them to meet and have fun with friends.
