Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. The event organised by Jonathan's friends was a fitting musical tribute to Jonny on the weekend of what would have been his 46th birthday.
When Jonny died suddenly we were desperate to understand what had caused his death.
Nearly three months after Jonny died we were told in a few lines on an email from the coroners office that he had a neuroendocrine tumour on his adrenal gland which had caused heart issues and his subsequent death.
When all we had was a few lines on an email and the internet to rely on to try and understand what a neuroendocrine tumour was and in desperation, I found my way to a website called Amend who had a lot of information on different conditions. They were quick to call me, supportive but more importantly informative about the types of conditions, told us what further questions we would need to ask to find out the type of tumour, ensure there wasn’t a genetic link (thankfully that’s been deemed low risk) signposted us to where we could go for more help and offered counselling services.
The non cancerous tumour Jonny had was later confirmed as a pheochromocytoma ~ in layman’s terms these tumours release hormones from the adrenal glands that control heart rate, blood pressure and metabolism. These tumours are rare but hard to diagnose as symptoms are sporadic, often passed off as general common conditions ibs, anxiety; stress, high blood pressure etc.
Amend are trying to raise awareness of these rare conditions with medical professionals about symptoms of neuroendocrine tumours, provide support to patients, families and support vital research.
As a thank you for the support given to us we would like to help Amend to support other families affected by such rare conditions.
Thanks to family and friends for their continued support. Jonny would be honoured and proud that we all came together to remember him and celebrate his life through music and raise funds and awareness.
