Story

Our East Hants Young Carers programme is now running sessions in both Alton and Petersfield, it’s a safe space for sharing feelings, providing connection, respite, and fun! This Christmas we’ll be running a number of special Christmas events, but we need your help. We’d love to put on 4 Christmas parties (2 in each centre) – one for our junior young carers and one for our seniors in each centre. They’ll be playing festive games and challenges, making Christmas crafts, sharing a meal together and enjoying being the amazing young people that they are.

Across the programme we have 79 young carers, aged 8-18years.

So what is a Young Carer? Children and young people under the age of 18 years old who provide regular and ongoing care and emotional support to a family member who is physically or mentally ill, disabled or misuses substances.

What does KA Young Carer’s mean to them?

“I never feel judged, I feel like I am actually listened to.”

“I feel like I belong somewhere, where I don’t have to explain anything, unless I want to.”

“It’s just something to look forward to each month, that’s just for me.”
