Wing walking!!
I've always been intrigued by this since I saw it on Davina McCall's "Don't try this at home" as a kid. Well, Davina, I'm going to try this! Although, thankfully not at home! It'll be under the close supervision and instruction of Headcorn aerodrome. I remember watching the TV in awe, through most of that program, but this particularly stood out and I remember thinking I'm going to do that when I grow up!
Now, as an adult, it feels pretty insane; I've generally been pretty fearless (& Theia is making sure that comes back to haunt me!) Doing a skydive, playing roller derby, ramp skating, travelling alone from a young age, moving away from friends and family to set up a new life, by the sea. But I remember that inevitable adult fear kicking in twice while travelling through Guatemala - once hurtling down a volcano on a bike - no bottling it on that one!! & the other jumping off a (20m as i remember it) bridge onto a river below - that one I did bottle & I've kicked myself since. So definitely no bottling the wing walk. If I hit £1,000 I'll do it in a morph suit (backwards as face coverings aren't allowed)
Triathlon!
2 weeks prior, 3rd Aug 2025 My first Tri! A "sprint" 500m swim, 20k cycle, 5k run. I wasn't going to fundraise for this originally as it was already booked - I was doing it for "fun"!! But that was last year, not much more than a year after having my daughter and all the complications that came from that; including sepsis, emergency c-section, haematoma, further surgery, fighting for my life 3x in a fortnight and ongoing right hip pain and pist sepsis syndrome. While my fitness was doing OK when I was on maternity leave, trying to go back to work and keep it up wasn't managable and I had to defer. Bringing us to this year, I was flying with training, until 6 weeks ago - a torn ankle ligament, luckily it's healed but left me with less that a fortnight of training prior. 1st time on my race bike today I was shouting at my ridiculous gear design!! So, with the work I've put into this I feel it's worth a sponsor! (I won't offer to do this in a morph suit!! Maybe next time! Ha!)
The Charity
Since working for Pilgrims Hospice the last 6 months the staff have been incredibly welcoming but also taught me a whole new way of working. The care, compassion and skill they provide for those in the last months, or even days of their lives is humbling and it doesn't just stop there, they also provide comfort to the patients loved ones for an easy journey at such difficult times. So please, if you can, help us to continue helping people in East Kent provide care and support for those nearing the end of their lives. Thank you.
Did you know, £650 could provide eight days’ worth of specialist end-of-life care to a patient receiving support and comfort in their own home by our team of Community Nurses.
Pilgrims Hospices have been caring for the people of east Kent for more than 40 years. Our vision is of a community where everyone living with a life limiting illness can access the quality care, comfort and support they deserve, when and where they need it. Ensuring that patients are supported and empowered to live well in mind and body, in every moment, until the end of life.
By fundraising for Pilgrims Hospices we are helping to continue caring for over 3,000 patients each year, whether this is in one of our three inpatient units in Canterbury, Margate or Ashford, our Therapy Centres or in patient’s own homes. With 80% of our funding coming through voluntary contributions, the difference we make cannot be overstated.
Every £25 that we raise over £650 could mean that we can provide another hour of compassionate nursing care to someone receiving care at one of our inpatient units; thank you!
