Story
Hi everyone,
This year, I’m taking on the challenge of a lifetime – climbing Mount Kilimanjaro! At 5,895 meters, it’s the highest peak in Africa, and I’ll be pushing myself to the limit both physically and mentally to reach the summit alongside my two cousins, my aunty and life long family friends Selina and Eli. In addition to the adventure, I’m doing it to raise vital funds for St. Barnabas Hospice and Cancer Research UK in memory of my amazing mum, Charlotte Hammond.
Cancer affects millions of people around the world including many of our loved ones. My mum sadly lost her long lasting battle with the disease back in July 2012, leaving behind two young children, a loving husband, caring parents, a sister and two nephews to name just a few. Mum was the cornerstone of our family and to take on this challenge in her memory is something I hold dear to my heart.
Some of you may have known my mum. She shared a career with many of you working for Bennett Griffin, a well-respected firm of local solicitors. She moved home once or twice and some of you would have helped with the sale, and some of you may have even taken her out for a cruise on your Harley Davidson’s.
Mum was loved by all that knew her and her infectious smile is missed every day, so I am hoping to raise as much money as possible to help fund the groundbreaking studies, life-saving treatments, and support for those battling this illness every day.
My journey to the top won’t be easy. It will take a great deal of preparation, training, and sheer determination to conquer Kilimanjaro’s harsh conditions. But knowing that every step I take is helping to fund such important organisations makes it all worthwhile.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference. Your support will go directly towards helping scientists develop new treatments, improve early detection methods, and ultimately, find a cure for cancer.
If you’d like to contribute, please donate whatever you can. Even if you can’t donate, sharing this page with friends and family would mean the world to me.
Thank you so much for your support.
