Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

In October 2024 I will be taking on a challenge of a life time, I will be setting off from Orkney and flying to Africa to climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, all to raise as much money as I can for Prostate Cancer UK.

As part of my fitness training I’m taking part in Loch Ness 24 on Saturday 24th August as a team of 3 where we are hoping to run atleast 168km over 24 hours.

On the 3rd October I’ll fly from the UK to start my 72km trail that will take me through both the blistering heat and freezing cold temperatures, the dense rain forests and extremely thin air, I could be climbing for up to twelve hours a day, whilst sleeping in basic tents up the mountain. All going well I’m planning on reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) 5 days later.

Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano located in the Kilimanjaro National Park in Tanzania, near to the country’s border with Kenya. The average temperature at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro is -7°C (19°F). It is famous for being the highest mountain in Africa and is one of the ‘Seven Summits’ of the World.

My Dad was recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. He is currently awaiting an operation and treatment in October and that’s why I've chosen Prostate Cancer UK as one of my charities.

I’m hoping to raise £1000 for Prostate Cancer UK. All the money raised will go directly to Prostate Cancer UK to help fund the research to stop prostate cancer killing men.

I would be very grateful of any donations to help hit my target and hopefully go beyond.

I’d also encourage people to Gift Aid their donation – They get an extra 25p for every pound donated.

Thank You!

What is Prostate Cancer UK and what do they do?

Prostate Cancer UK's top priority is funding research to stop prostate cancer killing men. We’re investing millions to find better treatments and better tests that can spot fast-growing cancers early, and could be used in a screening program to save thousands of lives.

Across the UK;

About 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men.

More than 52,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year on average – that's 144 men every day.

Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer – that's more than 12,000 men every year.

Around 490,000 men are living with and after prostate cancer.
