The Challenge
I’m a huge outdoor enthusiast, and in April 2025, I’ll be taking on a solo, unsupported challenge to circumnavigate the Isle of Skye in a sea kayak. For 10 days, I’ll be living off the land, camping, foraging, and possibly even fishing, while carrying everything I need in my 5-meter kayak. This is going to be a huge test of physical and mental endurance, and I want to see if it can be done.
But there’s a bigger reason I’m doing this. As a father of three boys, I’m deeply aware of the challenges young people face today. I’m taking on this adventure in memory of William, or “Will” as everyone knew him. Will was the son of a dear friend. He was a sporty, energetic young boy from Swanage, Dorset, with a love for animals and the outdoors. Tragically, Will’s life was cut short at just 14, but his legacy lives on through the incredible work being done by his mum, Les, and the charity set up in his memory, #Willdoes.
Will’s charity supports young people who are facing difficulties, helping them build resilience, form healthy connections, and overcome challenges. That’s why I’m doing this. The challenge needs to be worthy of your support, and I can think of no better cause than Will’s memory.
Why This Challenge?
Will’s charity does invaluable work in promoting physical health, mental well-being, and social inclusion for young people in Dorset and beyond. Their mission is to give young people opportunities to engage in sports and outdoor activities, helping them develop coping skills, emotional resilience, and a sense of community in a world that can often feel isolating.
The funds raised will go directly to this amazing cause, providing young people with the tools they need to thrive. Please check out the www.willdoes.co.uk website to learn more about their work, and thank you for your support.
