Story
Friends, family, and compassionate supporters! I'm excited to share with you an incredible opportunity to make a difference. I am embarking on a challenging bike ride in support of The Lewis Moody Foundation/Brain Tumour Charity, and I need your help to make it a success. Join me in raising funds and awareness for this worthy cause, as we strive to bring hope and support to those affected by brain tumours.
I myself was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour in 2019. Undeterred and still going through treatment I've continued to set myself goals and challenges and I'm ready to go again.
On October 3rd I will be embarking on a challenging bike packing adventure along the 1000km Western Front Way. I will be pedalling fully self supported from the boarder of Switzerland across France finishing in Belgium, in the hopes of making a significant impact in the lives of those affected by brain tumours. My Plan is to complete this ride in 4 days. This ride is not only a personal endeavour but also a powerful statement of solidarity and support for everyone facing this daunting journey of living with a brain tumour.
Why the Western Front Way:
The Western Front Way is a historic route that follows the WW1 front line. I believe that the resilience in war and resilience in illness share common threads of strength and adaptability, but they manifest in different contexts. Both require the ability to adapt to new circumstances, and the importance of support networks. However, resilience in illness often necessitates a more inward focus, involving self-care, empowerment, and finding meaning in the midst of health struggles.
Your generous support can make a genuine difference in the fight against brain tumours. Every pedal rotation, every mile conquered, and every pound donated brings us closer to transforming the lives of those affected by brain tumours. Your support means the world to me and the countless individuals who will benefit from The Lewis Moody Foundation/Brain Tumour Charity's initiatives.
We are all living in difficult times and if you are unable to donate please spread the word. Spread the message through your social media platforms, email, or word of mouth. Together, we can reach a wider audience and gather more support needed to make a lasting impact.
The statistics:
- Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40.
- Over 12,000 people are diagnosed each year with a primary brain tumour, including 500 children and young people – that’s 33 people every day.
- Over 5,300 people lose their lives to a brain tumour each year.
- At least 88,000 children and adults are estimated to be living with a brain tumour in the UK currently.
- Brain tumours reduce life expectancy by on average 27 years – the highest of any cancer.
- Just 11% of adults survive for five years after diagnosis.
Research offers the only real hope of dramatic improvements in the management and treatment of brain tumours. Over £700m is spent on cancer research in the UK every year, yet less than 3% is spent on brain tumours.
Let's Make a Difference.
Thank you for reading this page and helping not only myself but others through this journey. Together, let's make a lasting impact and bring hope to those who need it most.
