Anyone who knows me will know that I have recently undergone open heart surgery (my operation was in March). While recovering I had time to consider how I might be able to bring awareness and hopefully raise funds for a cause (the homeless) and a homeless charity (the Canaan Trust) both of which are close to my heart. I have had the privilege of managing the Canaan Trust for the past 14 years.

Historically, since 1995, the Canaan Trust has provided safe secure holistic support for homeless males. The Trust has helped to rebuild 1000s of lives. In those days females who might be homeless were care for by statutory agencies and rarely would find themselves facing street homelessness or left to their own devices to deal with the prospect of facing becoming homeless on their own. Sadly more recently the Canaan Trust has witnessed a huge increase in calls from females who are vulnerable and facing homelessness. Currently a week does not go by without 2, 3, 4 females contacting the Trust desperately, urgently seeking help and support.

The Trust cannot ignore this need. In the past 20 months the Trust has supported and helped 94 females but sadly has not been able to safeguard them fully by offering and providing safe secure supported accommodation. To address this gap in its service to homeless females the Trust has purchased an additional property. The house needs to be effectively gutted and redesigned internally. The Trust is applying and securing grants to help fund the extensive works which need to be completed.

Through undertaking my challenge of walking 1 MILLION STEPS I am seeking to raise awareness of the Female House Project and, with your help, raise essential funds to help create and make the Female House a reality. The Challenge I am undertaking is to complete 1 Million Steps in June, July, and August (starting 1st June ending 31st August).
