Story
An enthusiastic Welshman from Cross Hands (near Swansea) Kevin Bowen, has taken it upon himself, with growing support, to start in motion a campaign to raise funds and get a monument in Wales to a historic Welsh figure, Owain Lawgoch, known as Yvain de Galles in France. To start with start he has written and recorded a song about Owain Lawgoch and proposes to cycle from Cross Hands to Mortagne, a distance of some 800 miles to meet supporters both in UK and France to celebrate the event, and of course raise funds from the many Welsh patriots here and hopefully worldwide.
Kevin is also keen to raise funds for Parkinsons UK, as he has a friend who is suffering from the disease. Supporters are encouraged to give to both funds, or whichever they wish to. Donations made on this page will all go to Parkinsons UK. There is a separate "Go Fund Me" page for the monument.
A keen supporter of cycling, he has no track record of long distance cycling, so it will be a superhuman effort for him… and to emphasise his enthusiasm for this cause he plans to cycle back. Not in any race, he plans to cycle around 40-50 miles a day, and take around 20 days each way with a few days for celebration at Mortagne sur Gironde.
It is hoped that people will join him along the way. It is likely to be a frantic couple of months, his planned start is 7th May, arrival at Mortagne on 28 May. Departing on 2nd June he plans to be home by 22nd June.
