Story
I want to take a moment to highlight why this period is so important – not only for Prostate Cancer UK but for every single family affected by prostate cancer. This month serves as an essential reminder for men everywhere to take charge of their health, seek support, and learn more about their own risk of prostate cancer. It's a month dedicated to increasing awareness and breaking down the barriers that keep many men from seeking medical help
This Men’s Health Month, the spotlight on prostate cancer has been magnified following Sir Chris Hoy’s recent announcement that he has been given a terminal diagnosis. His courage in sharing his story reminds us of the importance of raising awareness, of how early detection makes all the difference, and ensuring every man feels empowered to take control of his health
We know that 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer, but the lack of symptoms and screening tests mean all too often they find out by complete chance, too late. With more funding for research, we can improve earlier diagnosis and stop men dying too soon
Your fundraising efforts make a huge difference, both to help us to spread awareness of prostate cancer, encourage conversations – but also to fund the finest, cutting-edge research at leading Universities around the UK. The money you’re helping to raise this month will make a huge difference to families this Christmas. And every penny counts.
For example:
• By donating/raising £5, you’re giving 10 men the chance to learn about prostate cancer for the first time, through the distribution of our handy Know Your Prostate guide.
• By donating/raising £10, you’re helping us to buy 50 microscope slides for our researchers to better understand the biology of prostate cancer to enable more precision medicines to be developed.
• By donating/raising £25, you’re helping to pay for our Specialist Nurses for one hour, helping men and their families with the practical and emotional support following a diagnosis.
• By donating/raising £100, you’re helping to train ten new volunteers to deliver our 1:1 Peer Support service, to support men living with and after prostate cancer.
• By donating/raising £300, you’re giving 25 men our surgery support packs, which include helpful items like incontinence pads and wipes, alongside handy info guides to explain what to expect post-surgery.
