Story
On the 26th June 2018 Freddie was born absolutely perfect on the outside, to look at him you would never have known he so poorly.
Freddie was diagnosed with a problem with his heart at a scan during my pregnancy and although I knew he was going to have a tough start in life, nothing prepared me for what faced us, the next 6 weeks were a really tough roller coaster, multiple heart surgeries life support machines, blood transfusions, partial heart transplants… you name it Freddie had it.
For 6 weeks I was able to live in parent accommodation provided by the Brompton Fountain, without this I don’t know what I would have done. This enabled me to be able to spend precious moments with Freddie making memories (this is all I have now).
The fountain also provide toys for the children to pay with, tea & coffee on the wards (this is invaluable when you’ve been awake for 16hrs) social events for parents and siblings, days out, emergency toiletries, memory boxes, Christmas parties… the list is absolutely endless, if you need it they will make it happen!
Sadly after 6 weeks of fighting for his life, Freddie was too weak to continue his fight and on 10th August 2018 at 6 weeks and 2 days old, Freddie peacefully went to sleep in my arms.
I will forever be grateful to the help and support from the Brompton Fountain but most importantly the memories they helped me to make with Freddie during his short life.
Some patients are in the Brompton for months on end, it becomes a second home and the Brompton Fountain make the most horrendous time of your life almost bearable.
You always think something like this will never happen to you, but it did and I don’t know how I would have coped if it hadn’t been for the support of the Brompton Fountain. Still to this day (6yrs on) I know I can reach out to them for support if I need it. The team are truly amazing in what they do and I know every family that has ever had to go to the Brompton will have benefited from the kind generosity of others who help support the Brompton Fountain so they can continue their amazing work. And this is where you guys come in, please help me to raise some funds to help other babies/children and their families by donating to my page, even the smallest amounts soon add up.
Although I have run Royal Parks half marathon twice before (2019 & 2023), this time I’ve managed to rope in some friends to run with me, they are nearly as crazy as me! That aside, they have listened to me harp on about how wonderful The Brompton Fountain are and decided they too want to help other families like mine. So, think yourself lucky I’m only asking you to donate the cost of a coffee!
If anyone fancies joining the support/cheer team along the route we’d love to see your beautiful faces and if you could bring sweets we’ll love you forever.
All money raised from this event will go towards supporting the treatment and care of seriously ill children at Royal Brompton Hospital.
