Story
Craig is walking over hot coals to raise money for Stroud Valleys Project (SVP).
He'll be taking part in a charity fire walk at Stonehouse Court Hotel on Friday 29 September and he needs your help to hit his target of £100 - and maybe even exceed it!
Why raise money for SVP?
We’re all about our local community: SVP started in 1988 as a Community Development Trust.
We give the people of Stroud a voice and a way to take action: Stroud’s community got together back in the 1980s to prevent unwanted developments, and Stroud Valleys Project (SVP) came into being to give local people a voice, and a way to take action to protect the town’s natural and built resources.
We make a difference for people and for wildlife: Today, SVP has around 15 projects on the go across the Stroud district, each involving volunteers and meeting a genuine community or conservation need, and they also run regular walks, talks, and events covering a huge range of topics.
Right now, SVP’s team are…
• restoring Arundel Mill Pond and improving it as a wildlife habitat; we recently spotted a swan there for the first time in over 10 years;
• planting trees across Stroud District as part of the Gloucestershire Tree Strategy;
• improving and maintaining the wetlands at Rackleaze;
• supporting volunteers at the Beeches daycare facility to make bird and bat boxes through our Creative Shed project;
• hosting Carers in Nature, which gives cared-for people and their carers the chance to get out and about in nature;
• and restoring the beautiful walled garden at Prinknash Abbey.
Let's make it worth Craig's while burning those precious tootsies!
