Fundraising for MND Scotland
I have seen first hand what Motor Neuron Disease can do to people and it is horrifying. One of my earliest childhood friends when I started gymnastics at the age of 7 was Gordon Aikman. As the coaches son he was always at the gym, training hard and was a very good gymnast from the off. Full of life and charisma everyone knew he was going to do great things. Fast forward 20 years and he is the director of research for the Better Together campaign heading toward the Scottish Referendum.
Gordon was experiencing tingling in his fingers which wasn't going away and headed to the doctors for a check up. The news that hit him and his family after numerous tests were devastating. Gordon had MND. His deterioration was constant and quick but this never stopped him in his fightback, fundraising and awareness building of this, currently, incurable disease.
His tireless work during the three years before his death in 2017 raised over £550,000 for MND Scotland and its research, double the number of nurses devoted to aiding those with MND in Scotland (and secured their funding) and also now has a lecture theatre named after him at Edinburgh University and a ScotRail train named after him
Gordon has been a BIG inspiration to me over the year to show how much hard work and dedication can do to helping others and for this reason I have chosen MND Scotland as my charity for my first marathon - below is a bit more about MND Scotland, please read on and help to work towards helping those individuals, families and friends of those affected by the horrific disease and hopefully, go a long way to finding a cure
MND Scotland is the only Scottish charity providing care and support to people affected by Motor Neuron Disease (MND), as well as funding research to take us a step closer to a cure.
We want a world without Motor Neuron Disease, so I’m fundraising because I want to help find a cure for this devastating disease.
Sponsoring me will also help MND Scotland to provide practical, financial, and emotional support to people affected by MND.
Thank you!
