Story
On May 10th 2024, I will embark on a life-changing journey as I take on the challenge of trekking the legendary Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru. This ancient footpath, nestled deep in the Andes Mountains, holds the title of one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
Over 5 consecutive days at high altitude, I will cover a total distance of 55km, conquering 3 high mountain passes. The most daunting day will be the second, as I ascend to Dead Woman’s Pass from 3,000m to 4,200m above sea level - more than three times the height of Ben Nevis! The trek will be grueling and demanding, but it pales in comparison to the daily challenges faced by Kelis who battles with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy.
Kelis's unwavering determination and resilience in undergoing various therapies and multiple surgeries is truly awe-inspiring. Unfortunately, access to essential therapy interventions on the NHS is limited and often falls short due to various factors. As this condition cannot be cured, regular growth spurts significantly impact muscle strength and mobility. It is crucial that Kelis continues with her intensive therapies to maintain independence and improve mobility, which will allow her to enjoy life like every 10 year old should.
Kelis's life is like one never ending mountain climb. Your support can make a profound difference in ensuring access to vital therapies that will enhance her quality of life and help her continue on her journey to independence!
I have chosen to raise £4200 to go towards Kelis's ongoing vital therapy interventions because the highest point I will reach is 4200 metres! How many metres will you sponsor me!!
