Story
For my 60th birthday, I've decided to raise funds for the Special Care Baby Unit at QE Hospital Gateshead. The unit is something that is close to me as my daughter Sarah works on the neonatal unit. The work my daughter and her colleagues provide for the premature babies is nothing but amazing. They work tirelessly to make such a difficult time the best experience for babies and their families with the best outcomes possible.
SCBU at QE is a small unit, accommodating only 8babies and unfortunately they do not have their own charity which can make it challenging to be able to provide the resources and equipment they need for their babies & families. Therefore the unit solely relies on fundraising/donations.
Special equipment can cost £1000s of pounds. Something as small as ink-less footprint for memory making boxes can cost at least £100. Something that may seem small but is such a massive thing to their families who may have suffered a loss in some way. Mini boos (£25 per pack of two) small comforters designed to help soothe a baby and encourage bonding. Developmental care aids, room refurbishments, the list goes on. All such important things to the unit to provide the care and support they need.
So you can see the importance just how much it is for the unit to raise money to provide such resources and equipment for the babies and their families.
To help the unit achieve this, they need your help! I would greatly appreciate any donation big or small.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my story and showing your support.
With best wishes
Keith
